TORQUAY UNITED - STATEMENT

Important ticket information for our pre-season game...

Torquay United are expecting over 2,000 Leeds fans for the pre-season friendly at Plainmoor on Friday, July 27 and ticketing arrangements have been adjusted to meet the requirements of both Torquay and Leeds supporters.

On the advice and direction of the Police and the Safety Advisory Group (SAG), the extra 500 from Leeds initially allocated a section of the Popside will now be positioned in Bristow's Bench. All visiting fans should go to the visiting turnstiles on arrival at Torquay from where they will be directed to the correct entrance.

Naturally, the primary motivation is ground safety, although it does mean a restriction in the number of seats available to Torquay fans in the Bench.

"There were a few options in making this decision and the practicalities of placing Leeds fans on the Popside were far more difficult to overcome than this final plan," said chairman Simon Baker.

"We have followed the advice and direction of the Police and SAG, as well as recognising the iconic nature of the Popside to Torquay fans.

"The chain of events started with us issuing 1,500 tickets to Leeds United, which covered the away end and two blocks in Bristow's Bench.

"These sold out incredibly quickly and Leeds requested an additional 500 tickets. This request was granted because we recognised the extra people turning up on the day of the game would have been extremely difficult to manage.

"The Police were then keen for us to house all Leeds fans on the Popside but we were insistent that would not be acceptable to our supporters. The next option to divide the Popside with two sets of fans was deemed impractical, due to the location of catering facilities and toilets, and the need for a separate turnstile."
